7 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD GO ON MORE STROLLS

It might sound old aged, I’m very aware of that. But I blame my iPhone app that counts how many steps I take in a day. Why take the subway or your bike to the movies in the center of the city if you can easily walk the distance. Strolling, or okay, let’s just call it ‘walking’ is good for you. It’s one of the most important reasons New Yorkers are so fit. You should do it too, and here is why:

1.     Slim

Strolling, but then a little more uptempo, is often prescribed as a workout for models. Less likely to get an injury, just as effective as a run and easier to keep up. Besides, even your hair will stay in place when you do it, ha.

2.     You see more of your surroundings

You might think that by taking a bike you’re already seeing a ton of a city, but when you wander around by foot, that’s when you discover the real pearls. You literally pay more attention to details.

3.     It’s healthy

For your lungs (unless you’re in the middle of Rome, that is. One day outdoors there is equal to smoking a pack of cigarettes) and for the environment.

4.     Not a hassle

I’m also a huge advocate for riding a bike but having to properly lock it can be a hassle. Or when you’re stuck in the situation that your chain comes off. And when it comes to public transport, there are always delays or it’s too busy. Luckily when you walk, you’re not restricted to time.

5.     Best way to shop

When you’re on a bike or in a car and you spot something you like, you first have to find a place to park either your car or your bike before you can go in. When you’re walking, all you have to do is set foot into the place.

6.     You’re independent

No flat tires, you don’t have to wait for a bus that isn’t coming or a cab driver that reeks of sweat, just walk and you’re there. The only thing you need to consider is bringing an umbrella. You never know what the weather gods are up to.

7.     Reward

At the end of the day you’ve completed a workout. When I was in New York a couple months back, I found myself walking 12 kilometers in a day, and last Saturday I marked off eight kilometers in my own hometown. Only to wake up with slightly sore muscles the following day without having had to break the sweat in the gym the day before.
