7 THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT PERFUME
The world of scents is an interesting world on its own. There’s so much more to it than just sniffing what comes out of a bottle and spraying it around enthusiastically. There’s so much love that gets put into a bottle, years of experience and all ingredients have been chosen with the utmost precision. And to appreciate the gold that’s in the bottle even more, I’ve got a couple of facts & figures for you. Want to make a bet that the next time you start spraying around you’re favorite perfume, you’ll look at the bottle with an entirely different view?
1. Hydrating is a must
It always has been, but if you want to enjoy your scent longer, you have to be well hydrated. Scents last longer on hydrated skin. Want to enjoy it to an even better extent? Then most scents even have matching body lotions. Double the fun, double the (lasting) pleasure.
2. Rubbing wrists?
A no-go. Rubbing your wrists after spraying it on, will only release the scent from your body. Basically what you’re doing is rubbing it off which is a complete waste.
3. The optimal scent
You don’t have to go wild when spraying it on. If you want to enjoy it longer, you have to spray it on the so called pulse points.
4. You need four tons of roses to make one kilo of rose oil
Yup, that’s a lot. That’s a total of 1,6 million (MILLION!) roses for about one hundred bottle of perfume. That might explain the price tags for some perfumes.
5. Exciting names have exciting sources
Ambergris is one of the most rare ingredients used in scents. Want to know where it comes from? A whales intestines. Eww. But if you combine it with a flower and a couple of other great ingredients, you’ll suddenly have an entire different scent (that will definitely not remind you of a whale, yuck). Then there’s the civet, which comes from a special cat’s (the civet cat) glands. And if you ask me about musk, I’ll tell you it’s not a fruit you’ll find hanging in a tree. Perhaps not the best thing to know, but what you should know is that it has been well prepared and refined making it a scent you’re going to love. There are just certain details that we should leave to the experts.
6. You don’t smell it yourself but others do
Your own sense of smell gets used to the smell that you wear daily. So you’ll smell it at first, and then it seems to disappear. I was once told that you’ll smell it for about eight seconds, but someone else can enjoy it for twenty. But be careful, just because you might not smell it anymore, don’t go over-spraying it. It would be such a waste to use up your entire bottle.
7. Each fragrance has ten different ways of working
Is a friend of yours wearing something that you love? Then don’t immediately assume that her scent will smell good on your. Because of the pH value of your skin, odds are, it’s going to smell different on you.
