7 ways to maintain a pretty hair color in the summer
Last year was the first time I ever dyed my hair. About a month and a half before the summer holidays, I exchanged my brunette locks for blonde ones. And I was the happiest camper you could find. Emphasis on the word ‘was’ because as soon as I came back, instead of blonde I was extremely red and looked more like Pippi Longstocking than I did Gisele Bündchen with her blonde hair and sun kissed skin. Time for go looking for some tips and tricks to avoid having this happen the second time round.
Prep & prime
Protect your hair against the heat. Heat is horrid for the hair because it’ll make it less ‘fit’. And by this I mean it will transform into a stack of hay. Use leave-in conditioners with SPF, this will keep your hair hydrated as well as form a protective layer against damage from the sun. It’s easy to forget that not only our skin, but our hair needs to be protected too because it also has the possibility of getting burnt.
Be careful with heat
When you use a blowdryer, put it on a colder temperature. Same goes here, heat from a blowdryer can damage the hair just like the sun can.
Go for buns
An easy way to protect your hair from the sun is by putting it up in a bun (hello favorite hair style!).
The hat
A little bit of Audrey Hepburn won’t hurt you. Invest in a couple of sexy hats, wrap a scarf around your head of buy a cool cap. Believe be, it’ll spice up your beach outfit and protect your color.
Play with your hair
Usually people advise you not to play with your hair too much, but when you’re out in the sun, do it. When you keep switching up how you’re wearing it, the color will hold longer and you won’t dry out certain areas. So bun up, bun down, braid it, unbraid it. You’ve never had a better reason to switch up your look more often.
Properly rinse it
Rinse your hair after you’ve swam in the ocean. A beachy look is great, but the salt water dries out our hair as well as your color.
Olaplex
Olaplex is a treatment you can get done at a salon to make sure the color of your hair is radiant. It’ll help your hair recover from after having it dyed and keep everything on the top of your head healthy.
