8 NINETIES TRENDS THAT ARE TAKING OVER STREET STYLE
The nineties are in the midst of making their biggest comeback. It’s insane! High fitted jeans, simple t-shirts with Levi’s logo’s (or Tommy Hilfiger), long denim skirts – the average web shop is filled with these nineties goodies. They’re taking over current day street style. I’ve divided a couple of popular items into two categories: ‘Comeback YAY’ and ‘Comeback NAY’.
Comeback YAY
1. Adidas Gazelle
Look, these sneakers have been buzzing for a little while now. You can spot them on numerous blogs and fashion editorials. I love them, because they’re the perfect mix between cool, edgy, fashionable and sporty. So what are you waiting for? Go get ‘em tiger.
2. The beret
My god, I think I had about six berets back in the day. Or seven. I don’t really remember and it doesn’t really matter. I remember owning an army green one made out of corduroy , a black one, a red velvet on from my grandma, one with a plaid print that I actually never wore because it looked like something my grandpa would wear, a nay one – and I don’t really remember the rest but I think it’s easy to picture what the above bunch looked like. Anyways, the beret is back in the game and they’re fun, super edgy and quirky. Check these cool ones on Asos.
”Casual and relaxed: where can I sign up for this?”
3. The overall denim dress/long denim button up coat
The hippest of the hip people in the world have probably been walking around in these items for a while now, so sorry if I’m ‘late in the game’ but I’m finally on the bandwagon. Overall denim dress, ILY.
4. The bellybutton ring
I can be quick about this one: I would consider getting one once I loose a couple of pounds. I was never allowed to have one when I was little because my dad thought they were tacky. But hey I’m old and wise now and get to make my own decisions…
5. ALL of Calvin Klein’s shit that reminds me of Kate Moss and Mark Wahlberg’s campaign back in 1992
This is the ultimate nineties feeling. So it’s a look we all need to embrace. And why the heck not? It’s sexy, it’s relaxed, and aren’t those two things people want to feel? Casual and relaxed: where can I sign up for this?
”I’m not ashamed to say it but I want them all and I want them all Right. Now”
6. Kelly and Brenda’s pants from Beverly Hills 90210
No idea what brands they wore in the show, but they ooze some odd kind of weird hotness don’t you think? I’m not ashamed to say it but I want them all and I want them all Right. Now.
Oh, by the way, remember these nineties makeup trends we swore by back then?
Comeback NAY
1. The very very very low fit pants
Yeah, apparently these are coming back. So time to start digging. We’re not quite at the Paris Hilton low-low fit, but this one is close. Low enough to see your ass crack. I think this one needs no further explanation.
2. Chains dangling from your pants
There was a time when I thought this look was very sexy for me and I too participated in this trend. It was all a part of my ‘alternative’ personality. But nowadays I just DON’T get it. I repeat: I do not get it. Leave those chains for when you’ve got to walk your dog or something.
And then there’s a special mention for a trend from the beginning of the 2000’s: Juicy Couture tracksuits. Believe me when I say you’re going to be seeing these again. In the words of Juice Couture themselves: #trackisback. Preferably with the word ‘Juicy’ on your tush.
