I’m awful at keeping up with shows. I’ll always start, but never finish. I never seem to be able to watch for more than 10 minutes before falling asleep. And then I find myself trying to re-watch it the following day, and then the same thing happens. I’ve given up. The only show I have actually been able to finish watching is Orange is The New Black. I’m obsessed. So here are eight facts about this hit show that I didn’t know, and you might not have known either.

1. The prison clothing they wear in the show is real and was bought at a real prison.

2. Laverne Cox, who plays the role of transgender Sophia, is transgender in real life. In the episode where Sophia was still a man, it’s Laverne Cox’s brother Marcus to plays her role.

3. Miss Claudette was missing from a couple of the episodes because she was in a coma from a horrible car accident.

4. Natasha Lyonne, who plays the role of Nicky, use to have a real drug addiction in real life.

5. Daya is really only two years younger than the actress who plays her mom on the show.

6. Every actor spent an entire day at a real prison to prepare for their roles.

7. Red is actually blonde.

8. Piper went through an actual hunger strike in the episodes that there was a hunger strike, just to loose the weight.
