A MOBILE APARTMENT
For most of us, flying is a tedious activity. I’m assuming most of us fly economy (with the occasional upgrade) so we’ve always got our knees clamped into the seat in front of us and our necks locked for hours in the most uncomfortable chairs. Even when you fly business class, which is a lot better obviously, you find yourself sitting (or laying) in a chair for hours. For those of you who can think of better things to do that be crammed miles up in the air, it’s time you start digging deep into your pockets, or save up an insane amount of air miles, because I’ve got some great news: as of now, you’re able to book a flying apartment at Etihad. Oh yes, baby.
The announcement for this extremely luxurious method of flying came out a few years back, but it has been up and running since December. There are two extreme options: Etihad First Apartment and the Etihad Residence. The First Apartment is their answer to a new form of flying First Class which gives you a small apartment with one big chair and a couch which can be transformed into a bed. This already sounds outrageous, but if you decided to book The Residence, then you get a suite with a living room, a bedroom and a suite bathroom. Oh, and a personal butler. And a chef.
So what’s the price tag? A one way ticket from New York to Abu Dhabi’s going to cost you $32.000,- for two people. Outrageous of course, but Etihad still claims that this is much cheaper than renting a private jet. Then again I bet those extra set of 0’s probably don’t matter to those who’ve got an extra bit of cash to spend, I mean the rich have to stay rich so who knows, perhaps this is a great solution for a ton of people.
This is what The Apartment and The Residence look like on the inside.
