MAY-BRITT’S 7 BEACH ESSENTIALS
To make you beach proof
It usually starts in the evening, my beach day anticipations. My dad, a cool old sailor, taught me that you don’t need a weather(wo)man to tell you what the weather will be like tomorrow.
‘Red in the night, sailor’s delight’ is the motto (and ‘red in the morning, sailor’s warning’ too), so when I spot a pink/red sky in the evening, I make sure to start packing my beach bag because if there’s one thing that makes people excited…
1. A nice beach blanket
Towels are so passé, for a fun day at the beach you’re going to bring your prettiest hammam beach blankets. They’re lighter, they dry quicker, aren’t too thick and warm and are far more photogenic.
”The sun is great, but it is the number one cause for wrinkles”
2. A hat
The sun is great, but it is the number one cause for wrinkles, so time to wear a hat. You’ll get tanned anyway.
3. Books
Now that you have the time to read, you’ll go through your books in no time. Now that I finished Primates of Park Avenue, I’ve started reading the pages of La Parisienne from Ines de la Fressange. My tip: go for a book who’s content is in line with where you are. Summer calls for something breezy. Preferably books that take place on hot beaches with fast yachts. But that’s just me…
4. The statement sunglasses
You don’t have a lot to work with to make a statement at the beach, so make sure your sunglasses are big and bold.
”You don’t have a lot of clothes on, so you can’t go all out in that department”
5. Cheerful nails
See above. You don’t have a lot of clothes on, so you can’t go all out in that department. Make sure you have the perfect mani and pedi to give your day at the beach even more color. Why not paint ever nail a different color? Or go for the dip dye effect. Something along those lines.
6. Water
Take the label off of your bottle and add some mint and slices of lime into it. Check out how cool it looks and how refreshing it tastes.
7. Chilled Starbucks Coffee
And then my shot of Milan meets New York in a portable cup. Summer in a cup, that’s what those Starbucks Chilled Coffee’s are. And you can get them at your local grocery store fridges and put them straight into your bag. The best coffee with just the right amount of milk for a refreshment and that shot of energy that you need. Whereas my love always goes for the Caffè Americano, for the real coffee enthusiast because it’s a little bit stronger, I always opt for the Skinny Latte variety. Which is great when you’re eyeing that bikini body.
