all olympic athletes are drinking coconut water

There’s a total of 32 different locations that are being used in Barra da Tijuca, Copacabana, Deodoro and Maracanã for the Olympics. With more than 11,000 athletes taking part, this means that the cyclists start eating a ton of pasta and carbs, those who play judo live on mostly apples to try and stay in their weight class. And those who play handball eat as many egg whites as they can to obtain that gold medal. What they all do have in common though? They drink a lot of coconut water. Luckily it’s an easy something to find in Brazil. But why specifically coconut water?

– Coconut water hydrates your body

– It contains a high amount of nutrients. Minerals for example (and a lot of them), which help your organs, brain and nervous system fully function. An example of your daily need of minerals per 100 ml of coconut water:

– calcium: 5% (calium is essential to regulate your heat rate and muscle functions)
– magnesium: 6% (important for a decent heart muscle function)
– sodium: 7%
– calcium: 2,4%
– copper: 4%
– vitamin C: 4%

– Coconut water helps your metabolism.

– And not entirely unimportant: it’s calorie free.
