dirty secrets in your home

How clean is your home? Do you thoroughly cleanse your kitchen counter and dining room table every day?

Cleaning is an art form

Research has shown (conducted with 1000 women in the Netherlands) that besides working out, cleaning is one of the other things people forget to do when they’re busy. 1 in ever 5 Dutch people say that, simply put, they’re just not good at it and so they don’t do it. Dutch people don’t find the state of their home to be too important. A third of them find their wardrobe more important and 1 in every 4 thinks their desk situation is of greater importance (okay, might not be the case for me, you should see the state of mine). But here is the worst part: 1 in ever 10 people in the Netherlands cleans their bathroom once a year. I really hope what they’re trying to say is that they’ve got a cleaner who does it for them, but I fear for the worst.

How about the bedroom?

The Dutch are a bit better in between the sheets. Well, the 1000 participants are: the majority (45%) washes their bed linen every two to three weeks. 1 in every 4 does this once a week or perhaps even more. 1 in every 14 uses the dirty little secret method: they wash their bed linen once every six months, or when it starts to smell. A great question to ask your coworkers during lunch. See if everyone really is telling the truth.

Even more dirty places

More outcomes of this research cover the areas of your house that are dirty. Looks like you’ve got even more to talk about during your lunch break.

  • Using a blowdryer to blow away dust.
  • Using your finger to wipe lipstick off of a ‘clean’ wine glass.
  • When you’ve got guests over, only clean the rooms that they’ll be setting foot into.
  • Letting your mom clean your house every week.
  • Hiding a ton of junk under your bed or in the corners of your closet.
  • Use a spray in your home to make it smell good.
