Fashion dilemma of the week
HOW DO I ROCK MY FAVORITE SUMMER ITEMS DURING OFFICE HOURS?
With the summer (sale) just around the corner, you’ve probably got plenty of beach dresses, festival outfits and cool denim shorts on your list or in your wardrobe. We know the feeling all to well, whether it’s online or window shopping. You fall in love. In love with the beach dress, that dress you really really need. The one you plan on wearing all the time. But problem is, how can you make that one favorite summer item office appropriate? I’m here to tell you.
Not that I’m an advocate for wearing plastic bright colored slippers or shorts to the office. I might look cheerful, but I can imagine not everyone around you will appreciate seeing your bare feet – as groomed as they might be. The fashion guru’s in the States all agree on one thing: slippers at the office are a no-go. Flip flops need to be saved for the beach. Still looking to give your feet a bit of a breather? Go for sandals, nice peep toes or sling backs. Besides your choice in footwear, color is another important thing to keep in mind. It kind of depends on what industry you work in, but no one really gets excited from coworkers decked out in bright colors and over the top prints. Stick to lights and neutrals like white, beige, cream or light and drank blue for example. The bare leg dilemma is in line with the length of your skirt, dress and shorts dilemma. No shorter than knee length. That way you’ll know you’re in the safe zone.

Why not wear your favorite beach dress to the office? It’s not too tight and not too short. It’s perfect to combine with a cool jacket. Go for a leather biker jacket or a nice blazer. Edgy or business like. The jacket is the item that helps you create different looks. When you work at a fashion editorial office, you’ll obviously go for a different jacket than a law firm.
