Feeling under the weather?

avoid the advils, head for your kitchen cabinets

People are so quick to throw back an Advil at the first sign of a headache, and I have to admit that I’m one of those people every now and then. I think there’s no harm in doing so, but let’s be honest here; you can easily take care of those aches and twinges with the right nutrition. I can assure you that your body prefers it too. I’ll tell you what works. Maybe it can help you, especially now that a lot of people are feeling the January blues.

Stomach ache: Drink some ginger tea, it calms the system and eases gastric acid (if that’s part of the problem).

Head ache: Start off by drinking a tall glass of water. A headache is usually caused by not drinking enough water.

Fever or infections: I always make sure to have turmeric in my cupboard which I often use in Asian cooking. In the evenings I put on some tea with turmeric in it as well. It’ll put you straight to sleep. Turmeric fights infections, eases pain (it works wonders for stomach aches) and helps in fighting a fever. It’s also good for period pains, so make a nice cup of turmeric tea during that time of the month.

A cold: Heat up some milk with a bit of cinnamon. It’ll help you sleep like a baby too.

Colon aches: Chop up some coriander and sprinkle it over your meal or mix it through a smoothie.

Last but not least, take a short powernap before diving into the medicine cabinet. It really can make all the difference.
