fROM NOW ON ALL YOUR SECRETS ON WHATSAPP ARE EXTRA SAFE

The newest gossip, a steamy photo to your boyfriend, we’ve all done it. So how great is this: as of this week there is a so called ‘lock’ on all of WhatsApp and all your personal messages are now ‘safe’.

The first question that popped to mind though was: uhh, were they not before?

I’ve been seeing a bunch of odd notifications popping up on my screen with the following text: Messages you send to this chat and calls are now secured with end-to-end encryption. Tap for more info.’ Obviously my immediate reaction was to tap on the extra info button because what the hell does this message even mean? Has WhatsApp been eavesdropping on all of us?

I figured out that the end-to-end-encryptions is nothing more than the sender and receiver being the only ones able to read the messages. Everything you send gets ‘locked up’ so that even if the government were to try to trace what you’ve been sending, they won’t be able to. According to the founder Brian Acton, this ‘lockdown’ was already active in your messages, but it now also accounts for all forms of communication, like group messages, phone calls through the app and photos. Kinda lifts some weight off your shoulders now doesn’t it?

Brian, I like the way you think. Now all I’m hoping for is that all those awkward makeup free funny faces and tampons in my nose that were meant for my bestie haven’t ended up anywhere in your sight.
