HAVING AN OFF DAY? THIS IS HOW TO FIX IT
You know them all too well. This mornings when you wake up and you know: today is not going to be my day. Those days where everything is awkward. Your clothes sucks, you’re not productive at work and you’re late for everything. And yes, even your hair looks like f*cking shit and your nails look too ugly to put on your peep toe shoes.
The key question here is: is there any way you can save your day? Well, I don’t want to give myself a pat on the back or anything, but I’m quite the expert when it comes to these kinds of days. So here are my tips. (I’d also recommend checking out our lifestyle editors tips on how to get through a Monday.)
1. Usually the day already starts off wrong because you have absolutely no idea what the heck you have to put on. Some women opt to put on something bold and/or uneasy to lift their spirits. But since you don’t have the styling vibe (because everything else that day has thus far failed), you decided to pull on something weird or striking. And then you end up being annoyed the rest of the day. Grab something that you know will work: that one LBD, those comfortable jeans, that great sweater. Trust your classics.
2. Spray on your best, most expensive perfume that you have. A great scent really can uplift your spirits.
3. Remember this quote by Henry Ford: ‘Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.’ An off day has a self-fulfilling prophecy. Try to reset yourself.
“Then give yourself a quick pep talk and keep on keeping on.”
4. Start cleaning! Your closet, your living room, your bedroom – everything if possible. When your house is clean, your head will be clear. It’s bring you serenity, believe me. Although it does require you having the time to clean. If you don’t: then at least start with a clean desk. And then quick onto the next point.
5. Talk yourself out of it. Call up a friend and (if there really isn’t anything else you can do) CRY. Yes, it might sound rigorous, but man is it soothing. Then give yourself a quick pep talk and keep on keeping on. Side note: make sure you’ve got the right location for your sob fest, in the middle of the office floor in front of your boss might not be a good idea.
6. You got this. You might not think you do, but come on lady, you’re a champ. Think back to that awesome achievement of yours last week, read that e-mail in which someone sends you the sweetest compliment, or grab/read something about yourself that you’re proud of.
7. Help out someone else. Seriously, good vibes in the making. So: call someone who’s in a slump and could use a listening ear. Or help out a colleague who’s struggling writing a difficult email, it doesn’t really matter what it is, as long as you’re helping someone else.
8. The temptation is there, but don’t cancel anything you have planned (like drinks, dinners or presentations). Do take some of the pressure off though: you don’t have to stay somewhere until the early hours of dawn. Just showing your face is plenty. And refer back to point one: don’t overcompensate with uncomfortable heels and ultra tight skirts. This is a day for your classics.
9. Last but not least: if it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. Tomorrow is a brand new day. And just know that you’re not the only one suffering from a crappy day. It might feel like you’re parading around the street nude, but all they see is a wonderful woman who’s got everything under control. Better yet; you’ll be giving other women off days when they see your fabulous appearance.
