HELP, I’M PREGNANT! WHAT DO I WEAR?!
No guys, of course I’m not pregnant. I’m too old and I’ve already got the trio of my dreams. But a lot of visitors on our site are expecting and have been mailing me with the following question: What should I wear? As a mother of three I think it’s safe to say I know a thing or two about this.
1. Victoria Beckham’s tip
I’m sure there are great ones out there but the thought of pregnancy pants alone gives me the chills. You know what I mean, those pants with a super elastic waist that you pull over your pregnant belly. I have the ultimate tip for you which I took from Victoria Beckham. Get your jeans tailored and add elastic triangles on either side of them (right thigh, left thigh). This way, when your belly grows, your pants will stretch with you. No ugly elastic waist band necessary.
2. Avoid belly bands
I was thrilled when I got pregnant, but I still wanted to look cool in the process. I promised my friends to never turn into one of those moms driving a soccer-mom Van and to suddenly cut my hair short. To keep the cool factor at a steady level, I avoided any belly bands I came across in stores, and any other accessory that screams look-at-me-being-a-happy-new-mamma.
3. Nothing A-line
Everyone seems to think that A-line clothing is the model to wear when you are pregnant. A-line clothing does the exact opposite of what you want. It doesn’t highlight your belly, no, it steers the attention towards your boobs and arms. An A-line is great when you’re very slim. I would recommend wearing something like Wolford’s tube dress. It hits you in all the right areas whereas the A-line only directs you to all the wrong ones.
4. Long live the poncho
Want a quick and easy way to hide your belly? Go for a poncho. They’re fit is straight down and won’t pull too tight around your breasts like something A-line will do. Add some jeans (with the added elastic triangles), a tight elastic shirt, poncho on top and you’re ready to go.
5. No heels?
I still spent most of my time walking around on heels but around the end of the last trimester, I swapped them for ballet flats (Chanel ones… To sooth the separation anxiety from my heels). You can always go for sneakers or wedge sneakers that’ll give you that extra bit of height.
