HOW TO FEEL AT HOME
ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD
Whether you’re on a holiday or traveling for much longer, at some point, whether you want it or not, you’re going to feel homesick. It doesn’t mean you have to be moping in your bed screaming “I WANT TO GO HOME NOW,” but a meh-feeling is equally disappointing. Luckily I never really feel homesick, but the meh-feeling is something I am familiar with. So here are a few tips on how to avoid it.
do something you do at home too
This can be anything. In the mood to work out? Find a nearby gym or drop by hotels and see if you can make use of theirs. One of those things that always gives me that I-live-here-vibe is Netflix. Or watching shows in general. I haven’t had a meh-feeling yet on my current trip, but last week I did have one of those nights where I felt like doing nothing more than being a couch potato watching Netflix. Catch my drift?
eat something you would cook at home
Addicted to caesar salads? Avocado? Chicken? Mozzarella? Pizza? Whatever it might be, if you’re in any sort of big city, you can probably get your hands on it. Another things that always helps to is to order a great glass of white wine somewhere. Especially when you are in Asia where everyone drinks beer because the prices for wine are ridiculous. Take it from me: wine heals in mysterious ways. It’s the truth.
buy a local sim card
Perhaps you have a tough time ditching the digital world and that is fine, but if you buy yourself a local sim card, you’ll stay connected for close to nothing. Plus, you can spam everyone with your holiday pictures on Instagram and Facebook, cause you know you want to.
treat yourself to something nice
If none of the above work, drop by a store and treat yourself to something nice. I can’t think of anyone who doesn’t cheer up from pretty new clothes, do you?
