Beauty
how to go to bed
well rested
Our beauty editor won’t be thrilled when she reads this, but I used to be the type of person who’s evening ritual consisted of a lazy session of brushing my teeth (the extensive two minute treatment is what I would save for the following morning in the shower) followed by wiping my face with one of my daughters baby wipes.
Thank god I’m not the only one. I once asked a very well preserved magazine maker who was 74 but looked more like the reverse of the two number what her secret was. “No idea, May-Britt. All I know is I never really take the time to clean it in the evening. Too lazy.” Apparently there’s only one person like her, because there have been thousands of conducted researches which have shows that your skin will be in the best shape if you make sure to clean it at night and give it room to ‘breathe’ and take in all the applied creams.
Sounds pretty logical of course; everything we continuously smear on during the day needs to come off eventually. And if you have to do it, its best you do it in the evening. Because you know what, those clamps of mascara never made anyone look good, and neither did those foundation marks on your pillow sheets. So truth be told, there’s no reason you shouldn’t get rid of all the makeup on your face at night.

Well, besides being tired. That might be one reason. But I’ve found the solution to that. When I put my herd of kids in bath, I wash my face. We light a candle (all three of them want to be the ones to blow it out, and so I’ll light it three times). I have two Estée Lauder products I always use. One is more foamy, the other fuller and richer. Depending on my mood or what I think my skin needs, I’ll grab a bottle. Both are godlike.
The skilled ladies at Estée taught me some massage techniques (small heart and a big heart, the shape of an eight around your eyes) which makes me cleanse my face at least twice. Once because I have to and the second time, because it feels nice. Then I add a shot of Advanced Night Repair to my cheeks and drip a bit of serum around my eyes, apply a night cream and go downstairs. Then I drink another cup of tea with my love, watch some TV, and then I’m up for a great nights rest. And I wake up at my prettiest. And I look forward to repeating this in the shower. And I’m not kidding.
