6 X how to look cool
in your workout gear
In January, I started working as a freelancer. I work as Amayzine’s fashion director but I also get hired to work as a creative consultant for different brands that need styling and trend advice.
What this means is that I am able to work from home a lot. And when I do, I prefer doing so in something comfortable but also something that will allow me to head out the door in case I need to do some groceries. I always opt for workout gear. However, working in fashion gives you a bit of a reputation to protect, so heading out the door in unflattering outfits is a no go. Luckily sports clothing is very on trend, just make sure to style it appropriately.
1. Make sure you have good items
Invest in some good tights. There are so many cool sports brands out there. Lulu Lemon is a yoga brand which is immensely popular in New York and LA and I also always love La Perla’s pants but Nike is definitely on a roll with cool clothing too. Oh, and have you ever seen Stella McCartney’s line for Adidas?
2. Mix and match
Long johns and oversized shirts are a no go. If you want to head out the door looking decent, go for tights and pair it with a wool sweater. Huge contrast, I know, but it works.
3. Comfy shoes
Our editor in chief would prefer wearing some pretty Prada heels with her tights, but guaranteed that will cause quite a bit of stink eye from people around you. There are so many options for sneakers, but pretty ballet flats work too. You ooze comfort, practicality and style.
4. A statement accessory
Oversized sunnies, an asymmetrical side part in your hair or a native scarf. Finish your look off strong. Show people that you planned exactly what you wanted to look like rather than walking around looking like you just ’threw something on.’
5. A designer bag
Wear it as a cross body. I think the coolest way of wearing a designer bag is when you can pull it off nonchalantly. Kind of like: that Jérome Dreyfuss is an extension of myself, we belong together. Plus, having a designer bag will show people that although you look casual and comfy, you still have eye for style.
6. Polished nails
Your hands will always be your personal business card. Even on comfortable days you want them to look good and well taken care of. So go on, add that pop of color and you are ready to roam the streets to your nearest grocery store looking comfy and stylish.
