HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR MINI BREAK
In 4 fun steps
Do you have kids? Then you’ve probably just had your spring break and you still have a short while to go before the summer holiday begins. Don’t have any kids? Then it might take even longer before you actually plan a holiday, because you prefer planning them around all those annoying school holidays.
Conclusion: we all need a mini-break.
A mini-break (a trip that lasts at least two and max three nights away) just to pull yourself through the rain season. The fun thing about a mini-break is that you’re less picky about the location. When you go away for longer, you want a place that’s got good weather and food and fun people and great places to show. A mini-break is already a hit when you’ve covered just a few of the demands in your hefty package.
Even if your trip is only three days, you can enjoy it for weeks. And here is how.
1. Book far in advance
During every trip through the wind and rain on a drowsy Tuesday, think about that long weekend in Marrakech that’s waiting for you. Or that city trip to Paris. Or that cultural weekend in Modena.
2. Reserve a table at your favorite restaurants
Then you’ll know for a fact that you’ll have a seat at one of your favorite places. It’ll build up your anticipation. In about twenty nights I’ll be on my way to New York (make sure to check out these secret little addresses). Last night while I was doing the laundry (no joke), I called Morandi in New York to reserve a table. Preferably outside. And our favorite bottle of wine is already being chilled. See, that’s what I love.
3. Tell people
Repetition will do the trick. Anytime someone asks you how you’re doing just say: In twenty days I’ll be heading to New York/Marrakech/Paris/Stockholm/Modena. If someone starts to complain about the weather just say: ‘Oh what do I care. In twenty days I’ll be in…’ If someone says: ‘You’re so busy!’ then you say: ‘I don’t mind. In twenty days I’ll be in…’
4. Make a photo album
I’ve made a rule for myself that I’m only allowed to book another holiday or mini-break or whatever, if I’ve finished making a photo album of my previous holiday. I might be seven holidays behind but what the heck. My overactive neighbor always makes photo albums of her holidays. As soon as she gets back home, she’ll find it on her doormat. Seriously. This is a level I’ll never achieve, but making a photo album (even though I’m 7 behind) will make your trip last longer. This is the best way to prolong that holiday feeling by the way.
So, I’m leaving in nineteen days. When are you going?
