YEARNING FOR A HOLIDAY THAT ISN’T HAPPENING (YET)?

How to reenact that summer vibe

“I am in desperate need of sunshine.” These were my boyfriends exact words just last week and I can’t blame him. The past few months have been rather hectic. A move, a new pet (cat number three who has turned out to be quite the terrorist) and in the meantime I had a career change of my own.

It seems as though this time a year makes everyone want to flee the country they’re living in. Even if it’s just for 48 hours. Weather this time a year (in most places) can be associated with the words grim and glum. And the rain always magically appears at the most inconvenient times.

Alright, enough complaining. What it all comes down to is this: we’re ready for spring to kick in. And a vacation. If the latter isn’t an option due to whatever reason, you’ll have to come up with other ways to make the most of this season and here’s how you can welcome the new season with open arms:

1. Go through your summer closet

Take a peek at all your summer clothing and throw away everything you don’t plan on wearing as soon as summer kicks in, and what you will be. Just think of how bright you’ll be shining as soon as you’ll be rocking those outfits in the sun outside on the terrace.

2. Take vitamin D

We all have a lack of vitamin D intake (you know, the vitamin you obtain from the sun) in the winter. It might be a good idea to opt for supplements if you’re feeling the winter blues. Plus, add some extra hours of exercise to your winter schedule too.

3. Drink like it’s already summer

Red wine? Skip it. Red wine is for cold nights in front of the fireplace. Drink lemon ice tea, gin and tonic or a sex on the beach; whatever you need to give you that summer vibe.

4. Get a fake tan

Warm temperatures and a lot of light are the perfect recipes for that summer feeling. Even after stepping out of a tanning booth, your mind will still be set in a summer mood. Just make sure not to go too often because let’s not forget, tanning booths are not your skin’s best friend.

5. Great alternative: light therapy

I know a lot of people who use heat lights to get through the dreary months. Or you can copy our own health editor and get your hands on a selfie light to prevent that mid afternoon slump. Get on it.

6. Plan a mini trip

Okay, so a full on vacation is out of the question. But 4 days in Paris/Venice/Barcelona/Milan might not be. Start off by checking which destinations are warmer than wherever you are now. Believe me, this will get your heart racing.

7. Have a picnic in your living room

Deck out your floor with one of those cliché white and red checkered tablecloths, tasty snacks, put on your sunglasses and it’ll almost feel like the summer. Almost.
