Happy & Healthy

it’s almost melon season

And this is what you’re going to do with them

Oh please, can we start stocking up on melons already? I know technically it’s better to wait a little while longer until they are completely ripe and full of flavor, but starting a countdown is acceptable right? I don’t really care what kind of melon I eat, because all of them are high up on my list of favorite fruits. Although when you’re making certain dishes, make sure you do use the appropriate one. Hereby a couple of recipes using one of my favorite fruits.

Galia melon

Well, I can’t think of anything better than a galia melon with fresh slices of parma ham. To make it just a tad bit more special, you could grill your melon for just a few seconds. This adds a little more flavor and bite to the melon. Add a couple drops of olive oil and if you want, a (real) ball of mozzarella and voilà, you’ll have a festive appetizer.

Watermelon

This one is a great workout for your biceps when you buy it in a store. Chop it up into a bunch of small pieces and store it in your fridge – a slice for every day. I can’t imagine anyone not enjoying this.

Pink Smoothie

What you need and how to make it

-half a banana

-a handful of blue berries

-a big chunk of watermelon

-a tablespoon of Greek yoghurt

-a teaspoon of flax seeds

Throw all the above ingredients into one blender and mix them. Pour it into a glass and you’re good to go.

Salad with watermelon and feta cheese

Your initial thought might be: hmmm odd combination. But au contraire! These two work very well together. Chop both of them up into small blocks and put them in a bowl. Add some arugula, a bit of olive oil, some salt and pepper and you’ll have the perfect summer salad.

Cantaloupe melon granite

Okay, here is a recipe I stole from the master himself, Jamie Oliver (I love him). Requires a little bit more work with different fruits, but it’s another perfect salad to throw on the table this summer.
