DANCING TIL THE GRAVE

Lately I’ve started to form some kind of weakness for the elderly. Cute old grandpa’s and ma’s strolling around outside trying to understand all the odd things in the world that keep our generation busy; people walking around with headphones on staring at the small screen in their hands. I think it’s touching, they’ve spent so much time strutting around on our planet, obtained so much wisdom and taught themselves so many traits we might perceive as odd. Ever watched the movie The Intern? The one where Robert De Niro plays a widow on his pension and then decides to start a new adventure working as an intern for a webshop run by Anne Hathaway. De Niro is so cute in the entire movie; seriously, it warms my heart.

Anyways, I recently came across a short documentary about a 90 year old couple who are ballet dancers, and kept dancing ever after they stopped doing it professionally. It’s so touching and beautiful to watch. The documentary follows Marge Champion and Donald Saddler who are still capable of doing things with their 90 year old bodies that I could only dream of being able to do. It takes about 20 minutes and it’s not all about dancing, it’s about growing old too. This is what Marge has to say about it: “In this society ‘old’ or even ‘middle aged’ are dirty words. Well I gotta tell you, they’re fighting for the wrong cause. They’re going to get older, and they might as well find a way to enjoy it.” Amen Marge, amen.

So check out the video below if you’ve got a lunch break coming up and you’ll suddenly be very excited to grow old. I promise you.
