Diary #2

MAY-BRITT IN CAPE TOWN

Let me start this post off with the comforting feeling that I too am back to dreary weather and have already suffered from being drenched by heaps and heaps of rain. So nothing to be jealous about.

Well, only a tiny bit because about seventeen hours ago I was still laying out by the pool with a stack of magazines by my side surrounded by dear old colleagues of mine with whom I was lucky enough to travel with on Coty’s annual trip.

More about my first few days here. But plenty has happened ever since. We dropped by Boulder’s Beach, a place where you can watch penguins while laying on your beach bed. If I ever come back to life as a penguin, then I sure do hope I get to be one of these African ones. A life well lived in the sun sounds a lot more appealing than the South Pole. Although you would have to find a way to avoid all the tourists and their selfie sticks. But hey, a little bite in the ankle should do the trick. At least that’s what I witnessed while I was lounging on my sun bed. Very entertaining.

When we boarded a gigantic catamaran in Cape Towns harbor in the evening and I got drenched by a huge wave, I was a little less entertained. Luckily, the wine was flowing just like the wave that had hit me when we boarded and my lovely editor colleagues and I spent hours discussing life, dreams and why us women should be kind to one another.

The following day we took part in a cooking workshop and I found myself rolling samosa’s and baking roti pancakes. Let’s just say it took 47 laps in the pool to get the grease out of our hair and to even think about another meal again.

When I stashed all the Lancaster products and my souvenirs back into my suitcase, we still had an African drum workshop on the itinerary. And just as I thought I would be able to enjoy some African delicacies, a Cape Town local pulled me out of my seat to do a little booty shakin’. Thank God my travel buddies all failed at shooting a good video.

The rest of my trip was documented in an overdose of Instagram photos. And the memories have secured a place in my heart. Now all that’s left to do is try and keep that sun kissed look going… But that shouldn’t be all too difficult with all of my Lancaster products. A tiny bit of jealousy is healthy, right?
