MAY-BRITT’S COURSE IN FASHION

Lesson 1: the 101801 from Max Mara

In three months I get to blow out another candle, but for some reason it’s always this time of year that I come up with brilliant insights for my perfect present. Like Céline’s box bag for example or the iconic Max Mara camelhair coat. If you could glue a sign iconic and something ‘in fashion’ onto it, then I’m sold.

Hence the reason I thought: why not write about it every Sunday. A fact sheet about the coolest classics. That way all of us have the perfect wish list to show off to our sugar daddies. What do you think?

What is it?

A jacket. But not just a jacket, it’s made out of the best cashmere and has the best silhouette. It’s big so that during a chilly fall day you can bundle yourself up into it. It works well in the boardroom, but also anywhere front row or at the beach. You can wear anything you please underneath it or, even easier, nothing at all.

Who is responsible for the beaut?

It was Anne-Marie Beretta who designed this dress for Max Mara in 1981. Let’s all applaud her and pay some tribute. Perhaps even a statue.

How the heck do you pronounce it?

Centouno otto centouno, also known as tsjento oeno otto tsjento oeno. But saying: ‘Classic, iconic, cashmere’ will get you in the right direction too.

What can you recognize it by?

It’s definitely oversized, made out of the softest cashmere, double breasted and has kimono sleeves.

Who wears it?

Well, I think a better question would be who doesn’t. From Cindy Lauper back in the day to Paris Hilton, Claire Danes, Gigi Hadid and Kim Kardashion. Even if you’re the tackiest person on the planet, this jacket will instantly make you chic. Promise.

What’s it gonna cost ya?

A little more than a thousand euros. But don’t forget, it’s for life! You don’t need much more than this. Although I think next weeks topic might look great with it…
