May-britt’s Ibiza Diary
Ibiza is like a bottle of champagne. The taste isn’t all too surprising (you’ve had it before so you know what to expect) but it’s always exactly the way you like it. And so there we were, December 26th (almost at the end of Christmas and at the start of a dull and dreary couple of months and the only thing that would pull me through it was knowing that destination sunshine would be booked) hunting down our favorite house on Ibiza.
Now you should know that I once made the decision to try and avoid Ibiza during high season. Something about a crowd of people, and how do I put this politely, people who have a different way of planning out their days as well as those with exactly the same plans as I had. Better yet, people that I see on a regular basis too. I’m not saying it’s not fun to see people you know, but before you know it you’ll spend your entire day drinking sangria with people who spend time with back home too. Nothing about new insights and unexpected encounters, but more same old, same old.
But there’s a reason Ibiza is so loved. Incase you’ve never been (which I can hardly imagine), it’s beautiful, the food is divine, there’s a mix of Spanish messy hospitality and combined with the Ibiza hipness, always sunshine and have I already mentioned that they have the cutest little beach stores? Ones that sell those cute crochet bikini’s that usually cost you a hefty amount but you can get them here for a measly 35 euros. Oh, and another tip: wicker bags. Or leather bags with fringes, although that trend is a little passé here too. For the designer loving amongst us (guilty): if you want to parade around with a designer bag on the beach, the Louis Vuitton Neverfull is a great option.
But anyways, where was I. Ibiza was our destination of choice because we thought once we finally leave (there are quite a number of days between December 26th and July 24th), we wanted a guarantee that the weather would be good.
We booked our house through Ibizahousefinderz.com (my secret site for the best housing in the area with perfect service), booked flight tickets through KLM and off we went. If it meant we’d be stuck with the same old, so be it.
On our first round of the city San José we discovered a new store. My favorite salt (proof, proof) Sal de Ibiza has a new boutique. All their products in the nicest kaftans and crochet bikini’s with shell embroidery. And I discovered a new restaurant in Santa Gertrudis, Mikado. One with an Asian kitchen that everyone was waiting for after Bambuddha Grove (the epitome of cool) turned into some type of restaurant laboratory.
And those were my finds after a quarter of a day in Ibiza. And I haven’t even dropped by Los Enamorados Ibiza yet.
So none of that same old, same old theory I was worried about. Nothing same old about this place. So what do you think? After three full days on Ibiza and even a full day on Es Torrent and I haven’t run into anyone I know.
All I know is that I’m totally okay with the idea of coming back again next year. Besides, I need to stay up to date with all that’s going on here. Even from a professional point of view. Right? I think I’m going to go and book our house for next summer. That way I can keep my laptop shut next Christmas.
