SPRING TRENDS YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS
Now that it’s officially spring, everyone keeps asking me: ‘What am I supposed to wear this summer?’ Luckily there isn’t one specific trend that everyone needs to follow, but there are a couple of small trends to work into your wardrobe. These are the striking designs, colors and details that are going to make you ultra hip and very stylish for the summer.
Stripes
Stripes are the leader of the pack this summer. Which is good, because it’s one of those items that has been drilled into our closets. Although this summer it’s time to replace the Breton stripes for a more vibrant variety. Prada rocked the barcode mix combining thick and thin stripes, the Roksanda and Dolce & Gabbana runways included graphic stripes and Max Mara was keeping us in the spirit of summer with a vibrant beach chair stripe. Long story short; stripes always work. On a top, as a skirt or a jacket, but quite possibly my favorite: a striped dress. Horizontal, vertical or diagonal; whichever you please. And yes, it’s completely okay to go for stripes on stripes. Something noteworthy is that we spotted a lot of duotone stripes and a few multicolored ones. There is only one must and that is that the fitting is nice and loose so avoid tight fits.
Silver trend
Tinfoil is the texture of the season. Isabel Marant, Louis Vuitton and Saint Laurent showed the perfect renditions of this futuristic look. Lanvin and Margiela used magnified sequins on their clothing and Loewe incorporated small mirrors into their collection. Is this trend a little too much for you? Then you could easily update your look with a simple pair of silver or shiny shoes.
Ruffles
Ruffles aren’t new to the scene. We’ve spotted them before on the rims or collars of shirts, but this time around designers have gone for a more distinct edge; with the sleeves of arms being the most important base of the design – symmetrical or asymmetrical. It’s also a fresh and modern interpretation of the 17th century in which they merged the high neck ruffles into a jabot. Rosie Assoullin had ruffles running down the back of their dresses and Erdem decorated their ankle length flower gowns with ruffles from top to bottom. Mary Katrantzou opted for the quilted-silk look with ruffles on the front for a sculptural ‘wow-effect.’ If you mostly associate ruffles with evening wear, then you’ve got it all wrong. Ruffles are very appropriate for the day because it is the perfect form of decoration to embody a power-woman.
Prints all-over
Prints are even more fun and interesting when you wear them all at the same time seems to be the memo for the upcoming summer. Kenzo, Pucci and Mary Katrantzou mixed and matches as much as they pleased on their runways. From flower prints to graphic animal prints, stars and retro designs in patchworks creating the most exotic dresses. Because this summer dresses aren’t just plain old dresses. Dresses are artsy. We’re going to be seeing asymmetrical ones, dresses with one bare arm, dresses with graphic prints, with sporty colors or there will be skirts that are longer on one end then they are on the other. Don’t be surprised when you suddenly spot a dress with a bare white spot between all the designs; it’ll resemble a bare canvas piece. Clearly this theme is not meant for wallflowers.
