THE BEST WAY TO SELL YOUR CLOTHES ON DESIGNER VINTAGE

I might have gone a little overboard when it comes to purchases this week. I can no longer live a day without these Miu Miu ballerina’s, can’t breathe without my Gucci espadrilles and I suddenly bought four gorgeous (but not exactly cheap) kaftans for my three girls and their mother. And last Thursday, one of my favorite designers had a sample sale.

There’s only one thing I can do to legitimize my new purchases. Go to Designer Vintage. And quickly.

Preparation

Make sure your clothing, shoes and bags are in their best possible state. I plan on selling my Chanel espadrilles (they’re a little too small anyway) and I still have the box they came in, the dust bags and the bag from the store. And the ribbon. This makes the product have a higher (second hand) worth.

The price

Come up with a price that is reasonable. It’s easy to put something online for a lot of money, but it’s better to sell it for a little bit less. Don’t try to gain more than you should get. People aren’t crazy and besides; you’ve already had a great time with the product right? Then a reasonable price is enough.

“I no longer have to worry about people thinking: there she is again in her pink Dsquared heels with feathers.”

Exuberant things

My experiences have taught me, but perhaps the people at Designer Vintage have a different opinion, that it’s best to sell your most exuberant items. That specific Dolce & Gabbana or the Gucci Bamboo Bag for example. A very basic Filippa K blouse is something people would rather buy in a store.

Refresh your stash

I think Designer Vintage is the solution to refreshing my wardrobe frequently (this is how to upgrade it in six steps by the way). For my job I’m expected not to always show up in the same gear. Since I always sell things I’ve owned, I don’t shy away from exuberant things like I mentioned before. I no longer have to worry about people thinking: there she is again in her pink Dsquared heels with feathers. If you’ve made a couple hits wearing them, then it’s time to sell them and onto your next new love.

And then the bill

And then when all has been sold and paid for, it’s time to go shopping make some smart investments.
