the body suit. how does it work?
You can’t go online shopping or open a magazine without finding some sort of bodysuit. You know, it’s the swimsuit look-a-like but you can’t swim in it. Sometimes they’ll have long sleeves, sometimes they’ll have long trunks and others look like skin tight onuses. They’re trendy in every way, shape or form, but how the heck are you supposed to wear it?
Or better yet; when do you wear it? I get that they can look cool with a skirt or a pair of jeans, but just think go the hassle when you go out and your find yourself needing to go to the bathroom. You have to completely undress and somehow manage not to dump the clothes you’re wearing onto a dirty floor. Seriously though. Classic case of the popular meme: ‘ain’t nobody got time for that.’
If you hop on over to American Apparel’s website, you’ll be bombarded with them. Take this one for example; a purple, shiny, backless bodysuit with long sleeves. WHEN WOULD YOU EVER WEAR THIS? When you’re taking part in a gymnastics competition? When you’re ice skating? Those are the only two situations I can think of that call out for this attire. And even then they seem like the most impractical things to wear.
Unless your name is Beyoncé, you can pull off this look.
The bodysuits that confuse me even more are the ones that had long trunks. A catsuit kind of idea. Another case of ‘when the hell are you supposed to wear that?’ How’s this for an example; a super cute and fun one with colorful stripes. Although I’m wondering why you would ever make the decision to wear this without anything on top. And what would you even wear on top of it anyway? Clueless doesn’t even cut my mindset at the moment. Unless your name is Beyoncé, you can pull off this look. Then and only then. But in all other cases; nope.
Perhaps you completely disagree with my attitude towards this awkward item of clothing (and if you do, I’m open for all explanations on why anyone would want to wear it) but until then, I’ll categorize bodysuits under the term ‘world wonders’, because no one knows how they came to exist.
