THE BRITS ARE SAYING ‘SEE EU LATER’; WHAT ARE THE CONSEQUENCES FOR US?

(as foreigners in Great Britain)

Last Friday all hell broke loose after 52 percent of the British population decided to vote ‘Brexit‘. There’s nothing left to do about it anymore: England is leaving the European Union. What it means for the rest of the EU citizens? Ha, well at least shopping will be cheaper.

1. Shopping is going to be cheap

Yup. You heard right. Last Friday the pound had a big slap in the face compared to the dollar. At around 5AM in the morning the exchange rate plunged to 1,35 dollars – the lowest it’s ever been since 1985. You know what I hear? SHOPPING. IS. CURRENTLY. CHEAP. I can’t concentrate anymore, I need to go and book a ticket to London.

2. Passport

Back to the point I made above: if you want to go shopping, it’s best you get your hands on a passport. Most people in the EU only own an ID card, which is fine if all you do is travel to EU countries. But want to head to England? Get your hands on a passport.

3. It’ll be harder for EU citizens to find a job in the UK

Wanted to head to London for a summer job? It’s going to be a lot harder than it was before. ‘Brexit’ also has some consequences for the rest of the EU countries. Getting a job permit or living permit is going to be much harder than it was before.

4. Less Brits heading abroad for city trips in EU countries

‘Brexit’ is going to be making traveling to the rest of Europe a whole lot more expensive then they were used too. So looks like fun city trips are no longer on the menu.

So England, you left the rest of the European Union. It will forever be a political obstacle. Just so you know, as you diss the rest of the EU, they’ll just be flying over and buying all your Victoria Beckham bags and Stella McCartney shoes for extremely cheap prices. Making profit? No way.
