New York Fashion Week

THE 5 HIGH (OR LOW) -LIGHTS

The first phase of the fashion month circuit has been completed and London Fashion Week is currently in full swing. After the snow storm and fashion frenzy in the Big Apple, I think it’s about time to talk about the highlights of the coldest fashion week of them all: New York.

1. The K can mean no more than the Kardashians

From the creamy white fur parade which took place when they all came out to support Kanye to Kim’s insight to how she keeps her breasts high up in the air to poor little North decked out in a fur coat yelling at her mom screaming “NO PICTURES!” I have a multitude of different thoughts regarding this family but then again; they’re not hurting anyone and life without them would be pretty boring now wouldn’t it?

2. The Marc Jacobs show

Which started 2 minutes earlier than planned. Usually shows start about half an hour later than expected. At least. Looks like Marc Jacobs got some spanking from Anna Wintour because his shows always start too late, and ever since he’s been showing the fashion industry his timeliness. When it comes to his shows that is. I almost once missed a Louis Vuitton show because I spent too much time checking out all the street style outside the venue until the security told people to hurry up because the show was starting in exactly one minute. Marc is Marc is Marc so his show needed to be fun. And this time around, fun came in the form of Lady Gaga who made her run down the runway after Kendall Jenner.

3. Disabled and confined

We saw a model with a prosthetic leg and a girl with Down Syndrome strutting down the runway. I hope this was done with integrity and that both parties were happy. That’s all I have to say on that matter.

4. The cold, the cold, the cold

A month ago NY was still dealing with spring like temperatures (sort of), but now it felt like -25 degrees outside which had people walking down the street backwards to avoid feeling the striking cold wind in their faces.

5. Dutch girls

They’re ba-ack! Our national show pony’s have once again obtained a prominent place on the runway top 50. The Dutch model that walked the most shows is Julie Homans, one of my personal favorites with 16 shows under her belt. And then there’s ‘our’ Maartje Verhoef who also walked down the runway 16 different times in New York. Marjan Jonkman walked 14 different shows and let’s not forget about the other Dutch beauties Vera van Erp, Kiki Willems, Imaan Hammam and Ine Neefs. Okay okay, the last one is Belgian, but hey; potato-potato.

That was New York, how are you doing, London?
