We uncovered her secret
Here is something I didn’t see coming. How come Justin Bieber’s ex lover has the biggest fan club on Instagram? Why not Bieber himself? Beyoncé, what happened? Weren’t you the Insta queen? Or selfie addict Kim? Would make more sense right? How about Kendall?
We’re kind of wondering what happened to Instagram in general. Some accounts manage to skyrocket in just a few months and we’re starting to question if all their followers are genuine.
‘My beloved Queen B was shoved off the throne’
August 11th 2015. The day that Beyoncé had 42,6 million followers on Instagram making her the biggest celeb on the gram. Her current number is at 74 million. Not entirely crazy because more people have started Instagramming. Something that is crazy though: my beloved Queen B was shoved off the throne. There’s a new ruler of the Insta world: the 23 year old Selena Gomez with 84 MILLION FOLLOWERS. That’s more than the entire population of Germany. Seriously, how is that even possible? And a more important question: why Selena?
Selena is known, but not the most famous person on the planet. She isn’t even the most famous celebrity with an Instagram account. Most people know her as Justin Bieber’s former flame, as a young popstar, the girl that had her breakthrough as Alex Russo in Disney’s sitcom Wizards of Waverly Place. And okay, she’s stunning too, seems to be the ideal daughter in law and has had a successful career for years. But still, this doesn’t explain why she’s so popular on the gram.
So how did she rise to the top?
1. Selena doesn’t upload too many photos
She has a total of 1203 uploaded photos onto the social media channel which is about one third of what Kylie Jenner throws into the digital world. But apparently it works, not being too active. It makes you more mysterious and spectacular.
2. Selena is everywhere
Fans grew up with her. She works in the film-, television- and music world which makes her interesting for various target groups.
3. She only has famous friends
Superstars like Taylor Swift (currently on the second spot with 81,6 million followers), Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt increase her relevancy.
4. The Justin factor
Because of her on-again, off-again relationship with Bieber and all the juicy and intriguing gossip about the two, all of Justin’s fans want to follow her too. Even if it’s just to comment on her photos: “OMG, she just posted a photo with sunglasses!!! Justin once wore sunglasses too!! Clearly she misses him!!!” (I kid you not.)
5. Her fans are very, very involved
Picture this: of the five most loved Instagram posts ever, Miss Gomez had three. If we look at the statistics of her involvement, Selena (second in line after Lionel Messi with 39 million followers) gets the most hearts.
6. Selena’s got a good head on her shoulders
In a world full of glitter and glam, Selena knows how to stay sane. She’s not a huge fan of selfies, she prefers photos with her fans. The view from a private jet (Hi Kim) or a luxurious yacht (Hi Beyoncé) are things you won’t see on Selena’s account. A sneak peek of a photo shoot is more probable.
Alright, off to work I go. Television, singing, Disney movies, everything. Make a bunch celebrity friends, find a hot singer for a rocky relationship, don’t post too many photos, make millions and don’t show it off too much. Sounds easy, right?
