Fun & Famous
things you did not all too long ago
that you can’t imagine doing now
I’m a 90’s baby, raised with all the popular 90’s shindigs. Flippo’s Tamagotchi’s, Pokémon cards, MSN; you name it. Where has the time gone? I seriously have no idea. What I do know is that the situations below were so normal just a few years back, but have completely disappeared from our current households.
1. A collect call to you mother
Because obviously you always ran out of credit on your phone. And then your mother was always your savior. Seriously, whatever happened to this? Mom? Help?
2. Faxing
The very first job I ever had was at a pizza place and people would seriously order pizza through a faxing machine. A FAXING MACHINE. As if if were no big deal.
3. Writing a check
Turning a simple piece of paper into something of value. The States is a little behind because they still seem to use them. And that means you actually have to write out the number, remember? ‘Two hundred and twenty one dollars’ add your name and who it’s meant for. Sign it and voilà. Send it in the mail. So old school.
4. Using fake stick-on nails
Secretly we all took part in this super tacky and extremely inconvenient trend.
5. MSN and AIM
I was always allowed to use the computer for half an hour in the evenings to chat to all my friends. wRiTiNg LiKe ThiS bEcAuSe iT wAs So cOoL. Do we miss these sites? Nah, we’ve got Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, YouTube, Skype, Tinder, LinkedIn, Vimeo, WordPress – and the list goes on – to keep us busy these days.
6. A cell phone with an antenna
Talking about hip shindigs. I always thought I was the coolest person in the world walking around with a chunky phone with a massive antenna. And I would send text message. TEXT MESSAGES. Whatever happened to those?
8. A furby
“I’M HUNGRY, HUNGRYYY!!” My mom dumped mine in the trash because it drove her mad. But mine was in my favorite color (green) and you could feed it by pressing its tongue. Aww, I kinda miss my Furby.
