Beauty

things you do when you’re on a holiday

– and forget at soon as you get home –

You’d think that when you’re off on a holiday, that that’s precisely the moment when you take it easy and relax and do the things you normally won’t do. Oh god, what a cryptical sentence, but you always spend weeks before your holiday living off of just apples only to then stuff yourself with junk food while you’re abroad. And you stuff your suitcase full of your prettiest dresses and end up only walking around in shorts and a white t-shirt. Well, apparently it works the other way around too. So like I said, I spent the week relaxing in Valencia so it was time to amp up my beauty rituals. Things you should probably maintain even when you’re back from your holiday.

1. The protector

When I’m home, I’ll easily leave the door and sit out in the sun without any sunscreen on, but when I’m abroad I’m a fanatic when it comes to smearing on sunscreen. I won’t set foot outside with SPF 50 on my face and 30 on the rest of my body. And I’ll make sure to smear it on every two hours.

2. The faithful smearer

I’m lazy when it comes to moisturizing when I’m back home. Every now and then I have a panic attacks because my skin will be so dry, that I immediately start moisturizing everything. And for some reason I always believe that that small drop of oil will be enough to catch up on the lack of moisturizing I had done. When I’m abroad I have a standard ritual after I get out of the shower and make sure to hydrate my skin after having spent a day on the beach in the sand.

3. The cleansing process

Odds are, you makeup bag is stuffed with tons of things you hardly end up using when you’re on a holiday. This time round, I used every last drop in my tubes and containers. Even though I hardly wore any makeup, I still made sure to cleanse my face in the mornings and in the evenings. A lotion, a bit of oil, some foam. After all the greasy sunscreens I would wear throughout the day, a clean face was exactly what I needed before I headed to bed.

4. Smooth, smoother, smoothest

Another one of those things. I’m definitely guilty of shaving my knees when I decide to wear boyfriend jeans with rips in them. And if I end up wearing trousers three days in a row, no way does my razor come anywhere close to my legs. But when I’m in vacation mode, you’ll never ever spot me with any stubbles.

5. Polished and prepped

Heading to the beach with chipped nail polish? Not going to happen. Before I leave, I always schedule in a mani and pedi sesh to make sure my hands and feet are ready to be seen. Besides, how much more tan do you look when you’ve got a bright color on them?

Something I didn’t do though: pull off an Alicia Keys. Wearing absolutely no makeup. How great is it to walk down the street with a bare face. Okay, I might have cheated a tiny bit with my eyebrows, but other than that I spent all of my time in Valencia completely bare.
