WARMER WEATHER IS ON ITS WAY, TIME FOR SPRING CLEANING

I might be the last person you would ever expect this from, but I enjoy spring cleaning. Don’t confuse this with regular cleaning, which I always forget to do, but I mean that one time a year you go through your entire house and clean. Get it? Anyhow, with spring and (hopefully) warmer weather heading our way, it’s time to start off with a clean slate. Literally. I already started last week and here’s how you’re going to get the deed done in no time.

Take the time to do it

Hmm, maybe ‘no time’ wasn’t the best way to put it… My first tip would be to take the time to do it properly. Not just an hour on a Monday and then a Wednesday afternoon and then again on Thursday. By Friday, everything you did on Monday will be dirty again and you’ll be trapped in a spiral. For all freelancers and students among us; you’re in luck. You get to arrange your own time. So take out that dayplanner and reserve at least four days. Okay, okay, maybe three is enough too. People with a steady job? I would suggest you take a Friday off and plan a long weekend to clean.

Make a plan

Don’t just start cleaning the first thing you come across but divide your house into various sections. Start with your living room, then the dining room and then the kitchen, etc. That way you can plan an entire day for your closet too and go through your entire wardrobe.

Don’t do everything at once

Don’t clean and tidy up at the same time, it won’t work. Tidy up first. Or wait no, sort things out first. Go through all your belongings and throw away everything you consider to be ‘junk.’ Be strict. You don’t want to find the same junk half a year later. As soon as everything has been sorted and your bags of trash are filled, it’s time to start cleaning. Grab a bucket, fill it up with water and soap and clean absolutely everything.

Make it fun

Turn up your music, do everything naked if you want it to feel even more liberating, treat yourself to a hard earned lunch and enjoy all the old memories you thought you had lost but found again. And when you’re done, treat yourself to a fresh bouquet of flowers.
