TIPS FROM THE BEST
MAKE-UP ARTISTS ON THE PLANET
If we have to name the one thing most people struggle with regarding make-up, it’s foundation. Whereas we used to cake it onto our face in colors that were no where near our actual skin tone, we’ve toned it down, keeping the layers as thin as possible. Well at least it’s a bit of an improvement. But there is still so much we can learn. So that’s why we’ve asked some of the biggest names in terms of make-up on the planet to give us some tips and tricks to flawless skin.
start with a cotton swab
“Use a cotton swab to smear out your day or eye cream around your eyes and mouth. This will help keep your foundation in place and stay on the entire day.”
Troy Jensen
MAke it lighter
“When you mix your foundation and moisturizer, then it’s easy to make the color lighter and the coverage less obvious. It makes it all look more natural.”
Caitlin Wooters
GLOW IN THE DARK
“If you want to make your skin glow, you can mix your foundation with either gold or pearly white eyeshadow. It will make it look radiant which is what you want.”
Nicolas Degennes, creative director at Givenchy Beauty
make it thicker
“If you want to make your foundation a little but thicker, add powder into the mix. Just make sure you don’t add too much because then it will look like it has been caked on.”
Cecilia Muench, creative director at Inglot
The right color
“Foundation and concealer are tough products. Especially when it comes down to its color. The colors need to match the inside of your arms, not the side of your hand. This will help you see whether the color suits your skin. Or test it out on your jaw line.”
Maggie Ford Danielson, Benefit Global Beauty Authority
BRUSHES
“Apply foundation with you hands? No, never. Use a foundation brush and hold onto the end of the brush. It might feel like you’ve got less control, but it’s going to give you a soft and natural finish.”
Quantity
“Too much foundation is never a good idea. You have to build it up lightly. Go for a liquid foundation; pump once for a light coverage and twice to finish it off.”
Dark FOUNDATION
Bought the wrong color? “Apply the dark color right below your cheek bones and smear it out. Then use the color as a contour so it won’t go to waste.”
Wim Thompson, make-up artist Dior
