Travel Diary #2

KOH LANTA:

heaven on earth

As I mentioned in my previous post, I was pretty worried that Thailand was going to be filled with mass amounts of tourists and I was hoping Koh Lanta would be just as relaxing as Koh Libong. So to cut right to the chase: it is. In fact, it was so relaxing that instead of the original 4 days, I stayed for nearly a week and a half.

Koh Lanta has the perfect blend of serenity and tranquility on one side of the island, and on the other you’ll find a ton of fun little bars and restaurants. Without too much of a hassle you’ll find yourself on a practically deserted beach after which you can sip on some of the best and near perfect cocktails you can think of. Khlong Khong Beach is filled with fun beach bars and clubs, massage salons and the food is insanely good practically everywhere.

Travel wise there isn’t too much to tell. As in: I haven’t left the island since yet and the days are so insanely relaxing. I’ve had better food here then I’ve ever had in a restaurant in my hometown Amsterdam and there was even a place that sold real French cheese and I can’t even begin to explain how good it was to eat cheese again. For the first time in a month.

Last week I had officially passed my half way mark of my trip, which I celebrated at an animal shelter called Lanta Animal Welfare. That’s right, as I’ve mentioned before, this place is filled with animals who have unfortunately been mistreated or badly taken care of by others and have found a place to stay here until they get adopted. Spending a day here was definitely one of the highlights thus far of my trip.

So if you’ve got plans to head to Thailand, don’t forget to drop by Koh Lanta. Plus, make sure to grab a bite to eat or something to eat at one of the above mentioned places. You won’t regret it.
