Travel diary #3

Back to BANGKOK

The original plan was to spend 4 days on Koh Lanta and to head to a different island right after. But we kept delaying that trip and ended up staying two full weeks because we were so in love with the island. For anyone who is heading to Thailand sometime soon, go here. And send me an e-mail because I will gladly send you a list of places you need to visit.

As great as it was, I am now writing this from Bangkok where I arrived last weekend. I rented an apartment and planned to lock myself up for a few days to finish a bunch of deadlines I had. Once completed, I plan to go to another island and as of now, all signs are heading towards Koh Tao.

Anyway, the two weeks that I spent on Koh Lanta I indulged in the best food and I’m pretty sure I gained at least 5 extra kilos doing so. Almost. The restaurants and bars on the island are phenomenal. After traveling through Sri Lanka for three weeks, I was completely sick of eating curry’s and was hunkering for Western food, as barbaric as that sounds.  Koh Lanta was the perfect address and the food was often a lot better than what I eat at home in Amsterdam. Plus, the surroundings are a definite bonus.

We also decided to partake in a mega touristic tour, spending a day jetting off to 4 different islands. The first 2 were nothing more than cliffs and rocks with a bunch of dead coral, but the third island, Koh Kradan, was unbelievably beautiful. Add it to your list. And save up a ton of money so you can book a room at the Seven Seas Resort. We walked past it and almost wanted to break into one of the homes, that’s how badly we wanted to stay there.

Back to Bangkok. I haven’t made too many plans, because I really needed a couple of days to catch up on deadlines like I said. A friend of mine lives in this city so I’ve made plans with him, but that’s the extent of my planning. The apartment I’m staying at is great. It’s got a tiny balcony with an impeccable view of the city. There is a huge dining room table with the same skyline view and the bed too, has the same view. Not a bad way to wake up…

It’s crazy how quick you can feel at home somewhere when you’ve been away from your real home for a while. Especially when you’re spending a few nights in an apartment. As entertaining and fun hostels can be, this home is a gift from God. There’s a laundry machine, I stocked the fridge up with some beers that I bought at Seven Eleven and I’m about to watch my newest Netflix addiction: Making A Murderer. Watching shows while I’m abroad only adds to that I-feel-like-I-live-here mindset.

So, all is still very well. The countdown to heading back is approaching though. One more week. The thought alone is dreadful so I plan on making the best of the time I have left.
