TRENDS men despise
I hate it when I come home extremely thrilled with new purchases and I put them on to show my hubby and he gives me the ‘what the hell are you wearing’ look. Trying to explain to him that something is in fashion and that it’s a must have item for the season still isn’t a good enough reasoning for him as to why I want to wear it. So, what can you do about it? Well, I choose to ignore him and wear the hell out of the clothes anyway. But it does make me realize that men view clothes differently than us females do. So I did a quick round at the office to see if everyone experiences this the same way as I do. So hereby my list. Tip: wear these items when you’re out with your friends, not when you’ve got a date night with your guy.
Top 6 hate list
1. Boyfriend denim
We always feel extremely sexy when we’ve got jeans on that are loosely fitted around our butts and nonchalantly worn with a sweater and heels. But take it from me; men don’t find this attractive at all. No, not even with heels underneath.
2. Platform sandals
I always find these comfortable, plus it gives you an extra centimeter or four. Problem is, men don’t think sandals are sexy. So add a higher, ungainly sole into the mix, then he’d much rather see you wear sneakers underneath your dress.
3. Gucci-girl look
As enthusiastic as the fashion press was about Gucci’s newest collection; an eccentric mix and match of color, materials and vintage prints with oversized nerd glasses, the men in our surroundings would prefer us not to wear such ‘sexless oversized clothing with too many accessories’.
4. Flared pants
The jean department is limited because not only are they not a fan of the boyfriend fit, they’d rather not see us wearing a flared jean either. Okay, I’ll admit it, when I wear them at home I’ll often pair it with slippers or sneakers, but when I head out the door or when I’m at the office, I’ll make sure to pair them with high heels. But still, if it were up to the male population, dump them.
5. The bermuda
Goodbye to the traditional shorts, the capri pants and the culottes. This summer it’s all about the bermuda fit. How great are they with a cool bomber jacket and oversized blouse? However, our men don’t seem to agree. They don’t understand this trend.
6. The mid-lenght skirt
I love this, a mid-calf length skirt. Small in the waist, loose around the hips. I would wear it with a simple shirt and heels. ‘Oh, that skirt that resembles a tea pot?’ is what my hubby says when I ask him about it. Nope, not a success. So luckily I still have the receipt.
