Why do we kiss with our eyes closed?
When you find yourself lip locked playing tongue twister with someone, you automatically close your eyes. And any anytime you see a couple kissing and one of them opens their eyes your immediate thought is something inhospitable. Okay, you might not, but I do. Something along the lines of: ‘he or she is just not that into it’. Why though?
Well thank god for our good friends in science that have released yet another research study and they’ve got answers. Two psychologists, Polly Dalton and Sandra Murphy, researched the topic and publicized it in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance. Anything with a name that complicated must be right, right?
What it comes down to is this: our brain is downright complicated and doesn’t know how to focus on two intense senses at the same time. As in: if we want to fully get into a great kiss, tongue does not have to be included, we have to zone out the rest of the world.
Aha, so that’s why! The research had been conducted with things like cross words and vibrations and a ton of other complicated things, but it’s all about the outcome: when we kiss, we need all the concentration to do so and can’t use any distractions. Okay, glad we cleared that up. Happy kissing!
