why you should never want to meet your role models
Without coming off repetitive and writing yet another story about why I hate Snapchat, there is something else I realized that I can’t stand either. The thing is, there are a ton of bloggers that I started following on Snapchat because of Instagram, but the more I see their snaps, the lamer I think they are.
Take Kristina Bazan for example, one of the most popular bloggers out there. I always loved her Instagram, but my god. The extend to which I find her annoying on Snapchat is starting to make me hate her. All she does is yell “HELLOOO YOU GUUYYSSS” to the camera in the most annoying high pitched voice and it drives me mad. I could write an entire essay about more of these cases because almost every one of them is a lot less fun on film than they are on photos. Plus, they all seem to love themselves way too much. Seriously, what is up with all those shameless video selfies? Yes, I’m talking to you, Chiara Ferragni.
”Seriously, what is up with all those shameless video selfies?”
They always tell you that you shouldn’t meet your role models, and they (whoever they might be) are right. This includes meeting someone digitally. Your role models are always going to disappoint you. You’ve put them on such a high pedestal until you realize that they’re just regular people too, sometimes even annoying.
I spent years hoping I would meet Olivia Palermo. For everyone that’s been following us for a while now, you know what a hassle it was in New York to finally snap that selfie with her. All it was was a selfie though, because she ran straight to her next appointment, but everyone I know who has met her always tell me the same thing: she’s boring. And arrogant. And no fun at all. See, those are things I don’t want to know at all.
Long story short, if you happen to be in the situation in which you’re going to be meeting your role model soon? DON’T DO IT. Spare yourself the disappointment. It’s better you keep them high up on that pedestal in that perfect dream world of yours. You can thank me later.
