Love Is Blind Season 9: The Least Successful Season Ever

By

Denver is clearly the least fertile ground in America. Zero weddings. Zero!!
For the first time in the history of the American version of Love Is Blind, not a single couple actually got married. All six couples who got engaged with full conviction in the pods ultimately walked to the altar without hope. What a shame. The “I love yous” were flying all over the place, but in real life it all turned out to be a lot less solid. And that’s even though no less than six couples walked out of the pods with rings on their fingers. Sooooo…

Only “no’s” at the altar
The format is by now — and rightly so — legendary: singles get to know each other through conversations in the famous pods, without ever seeing one another. They talk to each other with a wall between them. Only after a proposal are they allowed to meet in real life. The magic of the experiment: love without looks. (In theory, anyway.)

But in Season 9, the Denver edition, all of that magic disappeared somewhere between the pods and the altar. Six couples got engaged, four broke up before the wedding, and the two couples that did make it to the altar (the stunning Ali & Anton and Kalybriah & Edmond) both still said no. And with those final “no’s,” the Denver season ended in a kind of collective relationship rejection.

Sparkle Megan: entrepreneur, glam queen, and now a mom
One of the most fun, sweetest, and most beautiful participants this season was without a doubt Megan Walerius (renamed Sparkle Megan). This super likeable woman spoke openly about her love for Wednesday morning tennis and her honesty about money and career. It quickly earned her star status. Her relationship with Jordan, a hardworking father with a full-time job in logistics, ultimately didn’t survive the real world.

But during the reunion, Megan dropped a little surprise (the show had been filmed 1.5 years earlier): she had become a mom to a baby boy named Brooks. Turns out, Megan found her man after filming wrapped and got pregnant just three months later. Her new partner Paul was also in the audience. And she had managed to keep it all pretty secret — until a few days earlier, when we saw some photos of Paul and a baby surface online. But it was all speculation at that point, since there had been no trace of a baby on social media. Hats off to Megan & Paul.

Kacie, Patrick, and the ring
Kacie & Patrick — it couldn’t have been more awkward. After getting engaged and meeting for the first time on the red carpet, Kacie decided she didn’t find Patrick attractive. She made up an excuse to skip the Mexico trip. Patrick never heard from her again. Their break-up was already uncomfortable, but the reunion made it worse. Patrick mainly wanted one thing: clarity and a sincere apology. What he got? Lots of evasive looks, a debate over whether or not the engagement ring should be returned, and the claim that Kacie had received death threats online. Reality TV at its worst.

Joe’s love triangle: it doesn’t get messier than this
Then there was Joe. First engaged to Madison, it later turned out he had a little side fling with Kacie. This came out awkwardly during the reunion. Eventually, it all unraveled into a giant mess. Madison was not amused — she also revealed that Kacie had called them “Eskimo sisters” (two women who have slept with the same man at different times). Very classy, Kacie. This moment was definitely felt and seen by both the audience and the cast. Did Netflix want reality? Yep!

But what did the fans think?
It’s always fun to look online and see what fans had to say about the season:

This season was a soap opera with no ending.
Love is Blind? More like Love is Blind…ed by fame
The cast only seems interested in Instagram deals and podcast gigs.
Not a single couple made it. Why am I still watching this?
Respect for Megan. She’s a mom now and shared that news with real class.
The reunion felt like a messy brunch with exes and too many mimosas.
Conclusion: Love may be blind, but we — the viewers — are not
Season 9 is without a doubt the least fruitful season ever. No lasting love, but plenty of drama and immature behavior. Still, I keep watching Love Is Blind. It’s my guilty pleasure, no doubt. And good to know: Season 10 is already on its way. Maybe with a better cast. Maybe with real love. Maybe.
