CHRISTMAS-PROOF HAIR
If I may give you, for free and for nothing, a million dollar tip, it is this: go to the hairdresser when you have a party. Really, with ‘done’ hair, you catch more compliments than with yet another new black dress. Because at Christmas, the hairdresser also gets to kick back, I’m testing a trial hairstyle with our friends from The Builing in Amsterdam.
Wash your hair and blow-dry it. Smooth the sides along your face and secure them with a pin.
Tease the crown well and spray it full with hairspray. Then flip it back, brush the top nice and smooth, and set the whole thing in place with more hairspray.
Next, make a small ponytail with your own hair.
The false ponytail (or the ‘helper ponytails’ as our hair friends call them) is secured with a small elastic to your own hair.
Wrap a strand of hair from the ponytail around the elastic and secure it with pins.
Straighten the ponytail with a straightener to create the effect of a real ponytail. .
You can roll your hair inward or wear it in a ponytail. Trim the ponytail if you find it a bit too long.
Of course, you can never do it as well as the hairdresser. Because they have trained for it and can work much easier with your head. But if you, as is the case at Christmas, are left to your own devices, it can work too. It's a matter of practice and the right tools.
