OH ILSE…
Now I'm going to be really honest. I sometimes listen to Sky Radio (almost every day) and when a country song comes on, it can happen that I turn the volume knob a little louder. Especially when Ilse de Lange sings. I really swoon away at ‘We are one’. Well, swooning might not be the right word because it’s actually a very sad song about her deceased father.
And what about the song ‘ I still cry’? Another tearjerker. Glass of wine, candles lit, the fireplace blazing (if I had one), friends around, and then Ilse somewhere in the corner with a guitar. The good life.
Ilse. For me, the most fun and especially the best singer (sorry Anouk, sorry Trijn) in the Netherlands. And don’t get me started about the look. That hair. So nice and wavy. To quote Leco, “not vulgar to hit”. Recently she wore leather pants, very high heels, and a sequined top. Ilse can pull it all off. Anouk van Griensven, her stylist, deserves a medal. I’m sure Ilse herself can pull out some nice outfits from the closet, but to be honest, this stylist is really from another planet in how good she is. Strange that she isn’t more famous.
Last but not least, very important, the woman has humor. What a nice sense of self-mockery. When I hear her say ‘God o god o god’ with her Twente accent, which I find particularly unattractive in anyone else, you can carry me away. If I were a man, I would know it well. Ilse, really, you’re my girl.
