Amsterdam West is in. No really. Okay, maybe I bike a bit faster than usual in the evenings to zoom past the creeps on the street as quickly as possible. While in Amsterdam South I actually bike a bit slower to window shop or to peek inside beautiful houses. But I prefer to eat out in West. Bar Spek is one of my favorite restaurants. It's always busy there, so making a reservation is a must, because all hip (cool hip) Amsterdam loves to eat or drink there. I still remember the first time I spotted ‘the Goyard bag’ there. The French shopper-style Louis Vuitton belonged to a very hip girl. When I saw that bag, I knew right away: that's the one. And sure enough, I saw it that summer in Italy in a pretty chic beach tent and later more often in Amsterdam. So, on my wishlist. Wishlist, you know, because they are unaffordable. But if I had the money, I think I would still prefer to eat at Bar Spek a hundred times. Because the menu is endlessly appealing. You mainly eat Italian there and the wood-fired pizzas are really delicious.

For example, the pizza tartufella: Parmesan, mushrooms, prosciutto, truffle cream, and arugula. Or the prima verdure with Parmesan, gem lettuce, red onion, capers, artichoke, asparagus, oregano, arugula, and basil. You can also order the pizza small (between €7.50 and €13.50). I always do that. And if I really want to eat light and healthy, I take coley with braised leek. As a starter, I like to share a few small dishes. Oysters, steak tartare and a burrata for example (between €5.50 and €12.50). And for dessert? Such an amazing scroppino of course!

Are you not coming to eat, but for a nice glass of wine? Then plop yourself down (for example on Sunday at the end of the afternoon) in the lovely, large, green couch in the corner. Great spot to wrap up the weekend with your friends. The interior of Bar Spek is a mix of new and a bit vintage. I love it. When the weather is nice, there is a large terrace. Bring on those Aperol Spritzers!
