– The Ball of Debutantes –
PRINCES AND PRINCESSES
How it can be, but this year the spectacular Le Bal des Debutantes has somewhat passed me by. It took place last November 29 in Paris, but only today did I see photos appear on the blog seaofshoes.com by Jane Alridge. For those who know nothing, Le Bal is an annual debutante ball where 25 girls from all over the world dress up for an evening in extremely expensive couture pieces to be presented to the world of high society. They come from different backgrounds, but you should think of princesses from India, daughters of actors like Bruce Willis (Tallulah Willis) and Larry David, girls with aristocratic blood running through their veins (Lady Amelia Windsor), and daughters of very rich successful businessmen (Barbara Berlusconi). But it’s not just elitist nonsense (secretly it is, of course), Le Bal is now also used to raise money for good causes and there is always a spot on the guest list for someone without blue or gold blood. This year, for example, there was Lauren Marbe, dressed in Anne-Valérie Hash Haute Couture. The 17-year-old Lauren from Essex made headlines this year by having an IQ of 161. That’s higher than Einstein. The girls are accompanied during the ball by a ‘cavalier’, a handsome boy from a good family. Tomás Terry Gonzáles de Gregorio from Spain, for example. Or His Royal Highness Prince Amaury de Bourbon Prince de Parme from France. Prince Giacomo Leone Massimo Brancaccio from Italy perhaps? Marquis Giorgio Sanjust di Teulada? Anyway, you get my point. I find it ridiculous that women still take their husband’s surname upon marriage, but if I ever find myself in a position to get such a surname, yes I do, yes I do, YES I DO.
Just a little more about the ball, that’s what we were talking about. The ladies wore a little dress from, oh, let’s say, Oscar de la Renta? Chanel Haute Couture? Elie Saab Haute Couture? Armani Privé? Carolina Herrera? Every fashion house provides a dress, and prior to the Ball, the debutantes go through fitting after fitting. Honestly, I would love to be such a debutante. With such a dress and such a man, I want it all. By the way, definitely check out Jane's blog, the blogger was a debutante herself in 2009 and has taken stunning photos this year. For us, to dream away beautifully. New Year's resolution 2014 number one: become a princess.
