This is not how it should be
Last night, the hairdressers and makeup artists of the Netherlands worked overtime, as there were no less than two red carpet events on the schedule. The Musical Awards were presented in the theater hangar in Katwijk, while the premiere of the film Mannenharten took place in Amsterdam. Now I have to be careful not to come across as too bitter and whiny, but the thing is, celebrities on the red carpet can sometimes go a bit wrong. For example, on the Katwijk carpet, there was Maaike Widdershoven, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress (in ‘Aspects of Love’) and also got to take the award home. And well, what do you wear when you see ‘gala’ on your invitation AND you're nominated, so you're guaranteed to be photographed a lot? “Well,” thought Maaike, “I'll keep it nice and simple. No extravagant ball gowns and other fuss, just a nice short skirt with lots of flaps so my hips look extra wide. And then I'll wear a sheer top with sequins that definitely doesn't flatter my upper arms. Finally, leggings, because then my legs look extra short. And sturdy pumps, of course, you never know.” Anyway. Maaike gets -2 champagne glasses from me. Then there's Loes Haverkort, the actress from, among others, Soldier of Orange, who pulled a large orange (coincidence? I think not) robe from the closet, in which she looked unnecessarily colossal and could have used a good ironing. I also didn't understand anything about Kim Lian van der Meij, in an unnecessarily short dress with shiny skin-colored tights. Or Kim Kotter, who wore a perfectly fine sequined dress but inexplicably felt the need to pair it with high black boots. So not chic. Maybe it was the location, you say Katwijk, you don't immediately think class.
Georgina Verbaan, I immediately fell in LOVE with. Long wavy hair (that hair. That HAIR!), a black dress with a fitted bodice and LACE sleeves.
In Amsterdam, things went a lot better last night. There we saw Anna Drijver in an angelically beautiful strapless dress. Georgina Verbaan, I immediately fell in love with. Long wavy hair (that hair. That HAIR!), a black dress with a fitted bodice and lace sleeves. Kim Feenstra was styled by Vogue's Saskia van Langevelde and stepped onto the carpet in a loose-fitting pants + top from Sportmax, she looked amazing. But even in Amsterdam, things didn't always go well. Antje Monteiro in a tight black dress with sheer fabric at the belly (I'm just trying not to imagine what it looks like when she sits down in that), a biker jacket, and shoes from Van Haren. I think. Victoria Koblenko, always good for a striking outfit, this time had a large black star stuck on her forehead. I don't know about Vic, I think I'm getting a bit tired of all those showy bells and whistles.
Anyway, always nice to have a party. Just that whole red carpet aspect, maybe we should just not do that anymore. Or at least, do it differently. Very differently.
