– PRESIDENT JENNA –
If I were a man, I would be in love with Jenna Lyons. God, I really like her. Because I belong to the female species, I have decided to simply admire Jenna without limits. If you play hide and seek between six and nine in the evening and roll around among the Lego blocks, run a multi-million dollar business run, have 300 pairs of shoes, drink a few cocktails alone in the evening while reading magazines and shopping online… then you are my girl. Period. And, oh yes, she also has a standard fourteen tubs of ice cream in the freezer. And, oh yes II, she looks so cool. Therefore, today on this rather dreary Thursday, the seven style tips from my heroine du moment Jenna Lyons, creative director of J Crew. And guess what? Half of the tips could have come from me.
Wear white jeans all year round.
My white denims are with my pile of summer clothes, but why actually? White can always work and gives a particularly crispy effect.
Steal from your man. (or your brother, your father, that’s fine too)
Garance Doré looked super cool on the very last day of fashion week in her denim blouse from Scott. All her clothes had been worn too often so she had nothing left to wear and sought refuge with her beloved. Anouk Bos from Creatorsofdesire.com and Jetteke van Lexmond always look great in their real boyfriend jeans. So love, beware…I’m coming your way.
Wear a good watch or wear nothing
This could have come from me. For years I used my iPhone as a watch. It was either the Tank from Cartier or nothing. And now, hooray, the Tank is proudly on my wrist and I am a happy person. You can wear a cheaper piece of jewelry from time to time, but a watch must be good.
Sneakers are okay as long as you don’t walk around in your sports shoes
I have to get used to this. I love heels, period. But I enjoy seeing Jet in her golden Nikes so I hope she doesn’t run through Vondelpark with them because then she’ll get a penalty point from Jenna.
Have a signature piece that everyone associates with you.
My colleague Agnès at Marie Claire always wore beautiful gold rings from Yves Saint Laurent. That was her statement jewellery. Or my friend Micha with her Love bracelet. I completely agree with this.
Pack your suitcase in a color palette
I also got this tip from Leco van Zadelhoff. For example, I choose a gray/black/white theme so that bag, shoes, and clothes match and you don’t have to lug multiple pairs of shoes. When flying, I also like to look as calm as possible. Ton sur ton… It’s already such a visual explosion in the airplane with all those people, those plastic tax-free bags, and all that clutter. I provide the calm note. At least… that’s what I try to do.
Write handwritten notes. Style is not just what you wear.
I always try to write personal cards, I even have private cards at home with our address on handmade paper. A card costs little but makes people so happy. Now just waiting for my Montblanc to heal.
