A CHIN FOR PEGGY
As endless as men can watch football, I am just as captivated watching TV when it comes to transformations. Hotter than my Daughter, Angela’s A New Beginning and even Rob Verlinden who digs up messy gardens into green paintings. All addictively fascinating and almost always with surprising results. For the much-needed variety, I also enjoy doing a makeover myself. Regularly, I change the atmosphere of my room by painting a wall: Depending on my mood, it’s Dior gray to shine in Hermès orange the next season. I don’t mind doing it.
On my way to an appointment, I critically looked at myself in the rearview mirror (which is said to reflect the most honest image) and suddenly realized that I was also very much in need of a makeover? Just some cosmetic tweaks here and there to mask the unavoidable effects of aging. I also go to the hairdresser to color my graying hair and to the dentist for whiter teeth, so why not?
The question arises: How do you choose a good cosmetic doctor?
- Gather as much information as possible. Do this especially with friends and acquaintances whom you know have had treatments.
- Make sure the doctor is BIG registered. (Certified member of the NVCG association = Dutch Association of Cosmetic Medicine)
- Check the website of the clinic you have your eye on. There should be information about the doctors working for the clinic. (Check if they perform injectable and botox treatments at least 2 days a week). Note: treatments must be done with safe and reliable, non-permanent fillers that are proven to be biodegradable.
- Always first ask for an introductory consultation and don’t let yourself be pressured too quickly to be treated or to take advantage of temporary deals.
After serious homework – it’s quite exciting after all – I got in touch with Annemarie, a young but experienced doctor and owner of a beautiful clinic -Van Rosmalen- in the heart of Rotterdam for an intake interview. Patiently and clearly, Annemarie explained to me what happens to the face over the years as the skeleton shrinks and the amount of fat tissue decreases. As a result, the face seems to sag sadly. Yeah that’s me! I hang on her lips and feel that I dare to trust her completely. Actually, I thought it was mainly the frown between my eyebrows that was most determining for my somewhat gloomy expression. But Annemarie pointed out something much more noticeable.
THE PROBLEM
My slight overbite. I have a small lower jaw and chin which makes the upper lip appear larger than the lower lip (see photo). Of course, I was aware of that. No wonder I awkwardly pucker in every photo in an attempt to make that lower lip stick out a bit. I had no idea there was a relatively simple way to solve this.
THE TREATMENT
To bring the upper lip back in proportion with my lower lip and chin, the chin was filled with the filler Juvederm Voluma so that the chin appears straight under the upper jaw when viewed from the side. Then the lower lip was filled with Juvederm Ultra, so that the upper lip no longer seems to stick out so much.
So now I am the proud owner of a chin with more volume and a lower lip that is balanced with the upper lip. The wrinkles in my forehead and the frown between my eyebrows are the next step.
I feel pretty and look just as happy as I feel. All thanks to Annemarie.
