Valentine's Day. It remains a tricky phenomenon that is actually not fun for anyone. Because if you're single, this is emphasized in every store and in every magazine with a thick marker. If you are in a relationship, you have to deal with expectations. Can I expect something from him? Does he expect something from me? And if you agree with each other ‘we don't do that commercial nonsense’, it still stings a bit when your colleague receives a bouquet of roses at the office.
If you are in a certain someone in the it's complicated phase, such a day that revolves around love and romance puts quite a bit of pressure on. This might just be the right push, but maybe not at all. Difficult, difficult, difficult. Here are Amayzine's 10 Valentine's tips for lovers, singles, and others;
- 1. Lovers: Surrender to the red-pink sweetness that is Valentine's Day and make it a big romantic spectacle including gifts, a love dinner, and a spicy outfit in bed.
- 2. Lovers: Write a love letter. There are few things as romantic as a handwritten love letter. In this app and text message era, very few real letters are written, so you suddenly come across as extremely original. Moreover, it costs nothing, but it is something valuable to keep for your whole life and read back when you are old and wrinkled in your rocking chair.
- 3. Lovers: Breakfast in bed. It's the little things that matter, sang Saskia & Serge many years ago, and they have been together for over 40 years. So take this advice to heart and surprise your love with something simple like breakfast in bed.
- 4. Lovers: Spoil him. If he deserves it and you can afford it, it can be quite fun to spoil him ridiculously. Buy that new iPad he's been eyeing for weeks or a beautiful Hermès tie that he would never buy for himself. You probably only live once.
- 5. Singles: Celebrate life. Go out for a lovely dinner with all your other single friends. Drink champagne, order dessert, dance until the sun comes up.
- 6. Singles: Give it a try. There are so many dating sites and apps these days, and now that everyone seems to be on them, there are also more success stories. So browse around to see if there is a site that appeals to you and see what happens.
- 7. Singles: Treat yourself. Book a massage, facial, or pedicure treatment. Fill your house with flowers. Stop by the pastry shop for a box of petit fours or secretly grab that Febo croquette from the wall. Nobody has to know.
- 8. It's complicated: Take the leap. It's incredibly scary and maybe a bit cheesy, but if your intuition tells you it's right, Valentine's Day might be the day to tell him that.
- 9. It's complicated: Laugh it off. If you have a bit of humor and think your fling shares that humor, there are certainly some fun jokes to be made. Nowadays, there are plenty of hilarious greeting cards that we believe you can only score points with.
- 10. Lovers, singles & it's complicated: Act like your nose is bleeding. There are things in life that go away on their own if you ignore them, and Valentine's Day is one of them. So if Valentine's Day doesn't work for you this year, just ignore it, focus on completely different things, and before you know it, it's Saturday and all those hearts are back in the trash.
