I follow Anouk Bos closely on her site creatorsofdesire and Instagram account. Her enviable outfits (and her full head of hair!) give me a lot of inspiration. Simple, edgy, sexy, feminine, sneakers, Chanel espadrilles, high heels, boybag, ripped jeans, leather, white blouse. Should I keep going? I think everything is cool.
Are you going to London soon? Then print this black book and take it with you in your bag. Anouk lives there and she knows where you need to be. Trust me, you'll immediately want to book a ticket.
Tell me, you live in London. Where can you really have a great night out? Cocktail, dancing, good music.
“I live a kind of double life. Sometimes I am Anouk the fashion entrepreneur and other times Anouk – the football wife. The company I am with at that moment determines the night out. Personally, I prefer the relaxed vibe you find in East London. Then I go with my fashion friends to Shoreditch House. It often happens that I miss the last train and have to stay overnight in a hotel without preparation. (So much so that I now always carry a toothbrush and small sample jars of day cream with me.) In East, there’s also Sushi Samba, a popular hangout for years. Other nights we go out with the team and the ‘women’. Nobu Mayfair, and lately also STK (West End). STK is a famous steakhouse where you dance on the tables after dinner. You really have to try the truffle mini burgers, you’ll never want anything else. STK is in the Me by Melia hotel, after dinner we move to the Radio rooftop bar on the 10th floor. You look over the whole city, the cocktails are nice and the music is good. After that, you just roll into bed. Ideal. Oh, and Chiltern Firehouse (from the owner of Chateau Marmont in Hollywood) in Marylebone is buzzing but you do need to book 6 months in advance.”
And a hangover? Where do you prefer to survive it? Do you have the perfect hangover breakfast?
“The best breakfast is at L’eto in Soho, people queue for it. They have everything. Besides delicious pastries, they also have nice egg dishes. But what really helps against a hangover is a (savory) Japanese pancake. You eat them at the reasonably priced Abeno Too near Leicester Square metro station. Really a big recommendation. Want to be even healthier? In Marylebone, you can get green salads and smoothies at the brilliant Roots and Bulbs.“
Where do you lunch, have coffee, and enjoy drinks well in London?
“I often have lunch at Scandi Kitchen or Riding House, both on Great Tichfield Street (near Oxford Circus). Scandi Kitchen is completely Swedish. You create your own healthy lunch there. They also have a mini supermarket where I always stock up on Swedish licorice, a legacy from the time we lived in Scandinavia. Riding House is very nice to sit in and the lunch is good. Everything is served cool and ‘blogger proof’. Popular with Londoners.”
Which restaurant do you go to if you want to be sure of good food?
“Maybe a bit cliché, but absolutely Nobu. The Ponzu, black cod, Nasu Miso, and yellowtail sashimi… what more could one want? (I know: a Japanese mojito)”
What do you read, watch, and listen to in order to stay inspired?
“Instagram is the place where I get inspired and discover new things.”
What is your ideal London summer day?
“Lunching at Shoreditch House and then chilling on their rooftop terrace with a pool while lazily looking over the London skyline. It’s a bit of a shame that Shoreditch House is private members only unless you are a hotel guest (so that means booking a weekend). An alternative is the rooftop pool of The Berkeley hotel. A bit pricey, but nice.”
I think Notting Hill is sooo yesterday. Where should we be now?
“Haha, shall I tell you that I have never been there? No, everything happens in East. That’s where you need to be. Nice hotels are Ace Hotel, Hoxton Hotel, Shoreditch House Hotel. Visit Brick Lane and all its street food and vintage shops. Have coffee at Albion.”
What are your favorite shops there?
“Start London in East. All the nice brands from Acne to Isabel Marant. Matchesfashion in Marylebone and the Joseph Multibrand store on Brompton Cross. Oh, and The Blue Bird shop in Chelsea. The latter is also a bar, a bakery, and a restaurant. Just so you know.”
Where oh where do you find time, peace, and inspiration?
“The gym. I sit days on my butt behind the laptop. In the gym, I can physically let off steam. Together with my personal trainer and schedule. After a session, I feel energetic, cheerful, and active. Sitting too long on my butt gives me a tingling butt and I always think that it’s because it’s growing. Tingling butt = time for the gym.”
Is there an Anouk look?
“Blonde curls, Scandi chic with a bohemian touch. Sometimes the emphasis is more on the Scandi, other times more on the bohemian. But those blonde curls are always maintained. Rain or shine.”
What’s in your glass this summer?
“Water (because it’s good for your skin and such) and/or a glass of good white wine. Preferably from Sardinia.”
What is typically you?
“Every curl a grill and quite flappy – not always very handy, but definitely not boring.”
What should people do more?
“Stop looking for the (next) best thing that makes you unknowingly overlook the beauty that is within reach right in front of you.”
