THE COOLEST CATWALK MUSIC

“Why do you have to go to all those fashion weeks when you can just see it online right away?” A question that was often thrown at me by an overactive publisher when I was still editor-in-chief of Marie Claire. Well, dude, hold on. Because I can meet with the most important advertisers, because you see the coolest people in the world walking by before the shows. Talking about inspiration. And because when clothing passes by your eyes live, it makes an indelible impression. Through the total theater. That fashion is art, I kept to myself. Publishers don’t understand. So don’t even go there.

The most important accessory of a show is usually the most neglected. The music. It makes everything that the designer had in mind blend together. There are special DJs who develop playlists for designers to showcase their creations as memorably as possible.

It was the same for the men. Valentino chose a classic and played Serge Gainsbourg. At Comme des Garçons, you heard Tuxedemoon’s Triumphant Procession for the heavier, inward feeling. At Carven, humor was the main feeling because a smile emerged when you heard Easy Easy by King Krule.

I wasn't at the men's shows. Not because of a squeaky publisher (because hey, I've become a free mensch) but because I am critically judging models for Holland’s Next Topmodel. Through this delightful spotify link I’m still completely in it. And you too. Looking at pictures on style.com, listening to music. Bet your boss is happy?
